Calculate the area of a triangle

Area is the surface that a given figure occupies. Before we show you how to calculate the area of a triangle, observe the following situation:

Calculate the area of a triangle

Through this practice activity, one comes to the conclusion that if we divide a parallelogram by its diagonal, we get two equal triangles. Thus, we can say that the area of each triangle will be equal to half the area of the parallelogram. If the area of the parallelogram is equal to the product of its base by its height, then the area of a triangle equals half the product of its base by its height.

To calculate the area of a triangle simply apply the following formula:

Constructing triangles

A triangle is a polygon with three sides. To construct a triangle, you can simply draw a polygon that has three sides. However, if you have some data, you must know how to construct the triangle to comply with that instructions. To help you study maths, below you cand learn how to construct triangles given some data. To do this, the stuff you'll need are the following:

- Compass
- ruler
- protractor
- Drawing materials (pencil and eraser)

Thus, there are three ways to construct triangles:

- Given the measures of the three sides;
- Given the measures of two sides and the amplitude of the angle formed by them;
- Given the length of one side and the amplitudes of its adjacent angles.

If you want to learn how to build each triangle, click below.
