Area is the surface that a given figure occupies. To calculate the area of the square and the rectangle, you must measure the length and width of the figure. Since the square has all equal sides, in this case it is considered the measure of the side. To calculate the area of the square and rectangle just apply the following formulas:
- Area of the square
A = side x side = s x s
- Area of the rectangle
A = length x width = l x w
